Gypsy Rose Blanchard has set up an online petition to try and combat online harassment in memory of her ex-fiancé, Ken Urker, following his death at the age of 34Gypsy Rose Blanchard has spoken out about Ken Urker’s death(Image: Instagram/gypsyrosemedia)Gypsy Rose Blanchard has issued a new statement, saying she she doesn’t believe her late ex-fiancé died by suicide.Ken Urker was found dead by Gypsy Rose’s brother Dylan at his home in Raceland, Louisiana, on October 1, which was Ken’s 34th birthday. Now, 35-year-old Gypsy Rose has set up an online petition in memory of Ken.The TV personality is hoping to bring in Kenan’s Law to try and combat online harassment and hold social media platforms accountable for how they handle harassment reports. Ken’s sister previously claimed he slept with a gun after receiving death threats and having his personal details exposed online.Posting in the Change.org petition, Gypsy Rose explained, “I am creating Kenan’s Law in memory of Kenan Urker and to advocate for meaningful change in how social-media platforms respond to repeated online harassment.”She then spoke about Ken’s cause of death, saying that while the official cause of death is “pending toxicology results,” she knows “with 100% certainly that it was not suicide.”Ken Urker sadly died on his 34th birthday(Image: gypsyrose/Instagram)Gypsy Rose continued, “Regardless this petition is not about the cause of death itself. It is about the extreme cyber bullying that lead up to his passing. Cyber bullying played a huge role in damaging Ken‘s mental health and subsequently causing him to use unhealthy coping strategies such as drugs and alcohol.”She said Ken had experienced “extensive online scrutiny” on social media platforms such as Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. Both Gypsy Rose and Ken reported content which “crossed the line from criticism into targeted harassment,” but Gypsy Rose claimed many of the reports came back as “no violation.”She continued, “Harassment is not always visible in a single post. It can be a pattern. When hundreds of videos, comments, posts, and discussions repeatedly target the same person, platforms need systems capable of seeing the whole picture.”Gypsy Rose explained how she understands public figures “are subject to criticism, commentary, and opinions — including harsh ones” and explained the new law would not be about “censorship or silencing criticism.”Gypsy Rose Blanchard has started a new petition (Image: Instagram – @gypsyrose.inst)“It’s about taking action when criticism crosses into cyber bullying/harassment,” she said. Her statement continued, “What I am asking is that we learn from what happened before it.”Before Ken’s death, he would often read through negative comments, according to Gypsy Rose. She said this had a “profound negative impact on his mental health.”Gypsy Rose’s petition has obtained more than 12,850 signatures at the time of writing. Gypsy Rose ended her message by writing, “Please sign and share in support of Kenan’s Law.”If in the United States, you can dial the 24/7 National Suicide Prevention hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or go to 988 LifelineThe Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA ) runs a free 24-hour hot line for treatment referrals and support: 1-800-662-HELP (4357).
