Hackers threatening to leak more data stolen from Dutch laboratory | #cybercrime | #infosec

Nova, the cybercrime group behind a hack on the Dutch laboratory that handles population screenings, is threatening to publish more medical data. The group already leaked the medical data of nearly half a million women who participated in the cervical cancer screening. The hackers issued an ultimatum to Clinical Diagnostics on their dark web website.

According to the hackers, Clinical Diagnostics violated agreements with NOVA. They did not specify what agreements. According to NOS, it might be that the laboratory involved the police in the data breach.

NOVA gave Clinical Diagnostics 11 days to pay a large sum of money, or they’ll leak more of the stolen data. Sources previously told RTL Nieuws that the laboratory already paid a ransom after the hack.

Clinical Diagnostics is a laboratory used for all kinds of medical tests ordered by general practitioners, as well as the population screening for cervical cancer. The data breach affects 485,000 women who participated in the cervical cancer screening and around 50,000 patients sent for tests by their house doctor, including at least one Minister and one parliamentarian, and multiple women staying in shelters for domestic abuse victims.

The leaked data includes names, addresses, citizen registration numbers (BSNs), and medical test results.
