Yegaram Savings Bank has leaked customer personal information, adding to a string of recent hacking incidents at South Korean banks.

The savings bank posted a notice and apology over the data breach on its website on the 2nd under the name of its chief executive, according to financial industry sources on the 3rd. In the statement, the bank said it had confirmed on Sept. 30, 2026, that an unidentified hacker accessed a server containing customer personal information and that data had been leaked.

The exposed information includes customer names, dates of birth and contact details. The bank estimated that about 40,000 people were affected but said the exact scale was still being verified.

The bank said it completed emergency measures immediately after detecting the breach, including suspending related services and blocking external IP addresses, and stepped up security monitoring to prevent further damage. It also reported the incident to regulators and set up a customer service line. “We will verify the damage reported through our customer center and provide support for the relevant remedial procedures,” the bank said.

Shinhan Bank, KB Kookmin Bank and Hana Bank, among the country’s five largest commercial banks, have also suffered recent hacking incidents in which customer information was leaked.
