The app for supermarket chain Hannaford Supermarkets is down while its Dutch parent company Ahold Delhaize deals with a “cybersecurity issue within its network.”The company’s stores, which also include Stop & Shop, Food Lion and other major grocery chains, remain open. Ahold Delhaize has not described the cybersecurity issue, claiming that “sharing further details that could compromise security measures or interfere with our response efforts.” “Our teams are taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue,” the company wrote on its website. “This resulted in us taking precautionary measures, including taking some systems offline to help protect them.” “Although our investigation is still ongoing, we have no evidence at this moment that customer, associate and partner data was taken in this cybersecurity incident,” the company added.Since Monday, Hannaford shoppers have been unable to use online services like coupons, rewards and to-go orders.Ahold Delhaize has not offered a timeline for when services will be restored. The cybersecurity issue comes just over three months after the company announced a data breach that compromised the personal information of thousands of current and former employees, including Social Security numbers, health and bank account details. It’s also at least the second time in two years that a cybersecurity issue interrupted the company’s services. In November 2024, Hannaford froze online functions at the same time Ahold Delhaize confirmed it was dealing with a cybersecurity issue. That cybersecurity hack took 10 days to resolve. The Associated Press reported French Finance Minister Roland Lescure told Parliament on Tuesday that about 700 of the country’s 10,000 supermarkets were affected. He said there was no risk to France’s food supplies but acknowledged that the attack “touches the heart of our food security.”“It was a wake-up call for everyone,” he said. The French government’s cybersecurity agency said Tuesday it was “aware of numerous compromises” involving refrigeration system remote control modules made by Danish company Danfoss as well as U.S.-based Copeland.Over the summer, refrigeration systems at Hannaford stores in Bethlehem and Voorheesville failed, though at the time a Hannaford spokesman said the situation at the two stores was “separate, isolated incidents.”The problem does not appear to be entirely solved. At the Bethlehem store, a recent visitor said sandbags were being used to limit the spread of moisture from the store’s refrigeration units. A Hannaford spokesperson said they “do not have any reason to believe the matter impacting Ahold Delhaize’s network is related to the issue impacting some French retailers.”Larry Rulison contributed reporting.
