BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) — Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann announced the creation of a cybersecurity select committee a few weeks ago.
He says he believes more than $100 million a year is being stolen from Mississippi residents and businesses. That includes hospitals, community colleges and high schools.
Hosemann told WLOX that is where the committee comes into play.
“Now, for that, we’ve set up this group, and we want to talk about looking at a Department of Homeland Security, that we actually have prosecution for these people, that we have information for people, where do you go when this happens to you,” Hosemann said. “We have individuals that are working on who’s trying to penetrate the state assets or your home, for example. So it’s a whole mixed bag of things that include information, prosecution, and hopefully prevention.”
State Senators Scott DeLano and Jeremy England are part of this select committee.
