Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Cybercrime Police Unit (CCPU) has upgraded its technical infrastructure, enhancing its ability to identify accused persons, trace IP addresses and analyse call detail records (CDRs). These advancements are already aiding investigations into cryptocurrency-related offences.
Cybercrime DCP Dara Kavitha said Zoom Technologies, a third-party vendor, is now providing wallet addresses and data linked to crypto fraud cases. “Advanced tools are also being used for real-time profiling, location mapping, IP tracing, and password detection. These upgrades are proving effective in ongoing investigations,” she explained.
In recent cases, six cybercrime teams were deployed to Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan and Bihar to follow leads in pending matters. Officers confirmed that arrests are expected soon. The department is also working to sensitise the judiciary. “We have recently trained magistrates on cyber laws and recovery procedures,” said Kavitha. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) plans to extend similar training across courts nationwide to ease legal processes involving Zero FIRs, case transfers and P.T. warrants.
She highlighted the impact of the cybercrime awareness ringtone campaign, which helped reduce digital arrest scam cases to just two per month in March and April. “However, the numbers are rising again,” she warned. “Victims fall into a trance as scammers exploit the names of serving IPS officers to intimidate them. It’s a sophisticated setup. The accused source personal data from the Dark Net and Telegram groups, segmenting targets by age and profession.”
Cybercrime is evolving, and citizens must stay alert. Public awareness is critical,” she added.
