Indiana students will gain 24/7 anonymous safety tip line | #schoolsaftey #kids #parents #children

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana students will soon have a new way to report school safety concerns following a $1 million state investment.

Gov. Mike Braun announced his administration is funding an anonymous tip line available to all K-12 schools statewide. Trained safety specialists will monitor the line 24 hours a day to ensure help is available whenever concerns happen to arise. These specialists will send urgent reports directly to school officials and emergency responders.

Schools may enroll in the program starting in January 2027. While enrollment is optional, the Central Indiana Educational Service Center will work with school corporations across the state to facilitate the sign-up process.

“This historic investment into school safety helps schools identify concerns earlier, connect students with support and respond before a situation becomes a tragedy,” Braun said in a news release issued Friday morning.

Julie Q. Smith, director of the Office of School Safety, said safety concerns do not stop happening when the school day ends.

“This will provide 24/7/365 monitoring by trained safety specialists, with urgent concerns escalated to designated school officials and emergency responders when necessary,” Smith said in the release.

The Office of School Safety will hold outreach and education sessions about the tip line throughout Indiana in the coming months.
