Irish Broadcaster RTÉ Investigates Cyber Incident, Claims of Ransomware Attack | #ransomware | #cybercrime

Details are limited at this stage.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ is assessing a potential cybersecurity threat after claims that it suffered a ransomware attack.

“RTÉ was contacted by the National Cyber Security Centre over the weekend regarding information it had become aware of,” an RTÉ spokesperson said in a report, confirming that it is currently reviewing this information and assessing its veracity. RTÉ did not comment on the nature of the information it has received.

In a post over the weekend, RedPacket Security claimed that RTÉ had suffered a ransomware attack, although “specific details regarding the nature of the attack or the compromised information have not been disclosed.”

It pointed to a ransomware leak page which did not include any visible screenshots or downloadable data, suggesting that the leak might be in early stages or that sensitive contents are not publicly accessible.

“The attack appears to have been part of a broader global campaign, but details remain limited,” it said. “No personal, contact, or company-specific data have been publicly exposed through this leak page.”

A spokesman for the Department of Justice told The Irish Times that the NCSC does not comment on operational matters.
