An investigation into compliance with the sexual offender registry in Jackson County led to the arrest last week of a convicted sexual predator living near a daycare in Brownstown.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, an anonymous tip came in that 69-year-old Larry W. Cockerham, a convicted sexually violent predator was living near a day care on North Sycamore Street in Brownstown. Because of the prior conviction, Cockerham was required to register his home address with authorities.
Lt. Adam Nicholson with the sheriff’s department investigated and discovered that instead of living at a residence in Seymour where he was registered, Cockerham was found to be spending time at the Brownstown home and had personal belongings at the home. The home is next door to St. Peter’s Lutheran Daycare.
Cockerham was arrested Thursday for failing to register as a sex offender.
The sheriff’s department says deputies are committed to monitoring registered sex offenders and ensuring they comply with the sex offender registry law. If you have any information about a possible violation you are urged to contact the sheriff’s department.
