Japan ransomware attacks hit record in first half of 2026
Japan’s National Police Agency (NPA) recorded 123 ransomware incidents in the first half of 2026, the highest number for a six-month period since comparable statistics began, as cyber threats and online fraud continued to rise. The NPA also reported that losses from internet-enabled fraud reached approximately JPY 175.5 billion, an increase of 45 percent year on year.
