Investing.com– Japan’s GMO Internet Group Inc (TYO:9449) told users of its Onamae service to disconnect their PCs from the network after hackers threatened to leak personal information of its clients and launch a ransomware attack by midday on Tuesday. GMO told account holders to back up their data, turn off their computer, and disconnect it from the power supply before noon, according to statements released on its website. “ We have received a notice from the suspected attacker that they will release customer information and launch a ransomware attack at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, October 27th,” GMO said in a statement that was translated from Japanese. The company had late last week disclosed a major cyber attack that resulted in unauthorized access to its Onamae.com remote desktop platform, which resulted in the breach of customer data and unauthorized foreign exchange trades being executed. GMO said it would reimburse customers for the losses. The company also refused to pay a $50 million ransom and said it will not comply with the hackers. Shares of the company rose 1.7% on Tuesday after tumbling nearly 16% in the prior session.
