BEAUMONT — A jury in Judge John Stevens’ Criminal District Court has convicted a registered sex offender of Online Solicitation of a Minor for Sexual Conduct and Possession of Child Pornography.
Jimmy King Jr., 47, was previously convicted in 2010 of Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child, a 15-year-old girl in Travis County. He served time and was placed on the Sex Offender Registry in Texas.
He was also convicted of Aggravated Robbery in a 2010 case in Travis County.
Online Solicitation is a 2nd degree felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Possession of Child Pornography is a 3rd degree felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
His prior convictions mean he could face enhanced punishment.
The punishment phase will determine his sentence.
According to previous KFDM reporting, the registered sex offender was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury in 2023 for multiple crimes involving a child.
Jimmy King Jr. was indicted on two counts of sexual performance of a child, sexual assault of a child, failure to comply with sex offender registry, possession of child pornography and online solicitation of a minor.
The charges in Jefferson County involved a teenage girl who was 15-years-old at the time.
Police say they began investigating this case on Monday, May 15, 2023, when patrol officers responded to a report of suspicious activity involving a known, registered sex offender and a minor at a residence in Beaumont.
Investigators told us that King had contacted a 15-year-old girl through social media and began stalking/grooming her. He eventually picked her up from her residence outside of Beaumont and transported her back to his home where he sexually assaulted her, said police.
“BPD Special Crimes detectives have worked continuously for three days investigating this horrific crime,” said police in a KFDM report May 18, 2023. “Today, three felony warrants were issued for King for two counts of sexual performance by a child and one count of sexual assault of a child. U.S. Marshals assisted detectives with executing the warrants and taking King into custody. Due to the excellent cooperative police work of BPD Patrol Officers, Criminal Investigators, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, an active child predator was taken off the street,” according to Beaumont police. “BPD would like to remind parents the importance of checking their children’s social media. This is a classic case of a dangerous sex offender targeting an underage child using social media to gain access.”
