Kansas officials are highlighting the need for child suicide prevention and online safety following the release of the State Child Death Review Board’s 2026 Annual Report.
The report found 31 Kansas children died by suicide in 2024, up from 24 in 2023. From 2020 through 2024, 130 Kansas children died by suicide. More than half had communicated suicidal thoughts or intentions before their deaths, while 39% experienced a known crisis within 30 days.
The report also found 12% had experienced bullying, including cyberbullying.
Kansas has taken additional steps to protect children online. Caleb’s Law, signed in April, strengthens penalties for certain sexual extortion cases involving minors.
Kansas also joined a settlement requiring Meta to add child-safety measures. A separate $9.8 million settlement with Roblox includes stronger age protections, parental controls and chat safeguards.
Officials say early intervention and recognizing warning signs remain critical.
