Kenya has appointed Dr. Martin Koyabe as the inaugural Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Cybersecurity Agency (NCSA),  Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy John Tanui has announced.

In a congratulatory message, Tanui said the appointment comes as Kenya accelerates its digital transformation and seeks to grow the digital economy to 30% of gross domestic product.

He described the establishment of a dedicated National Cybersecurity Agency as a strategic milestone, noting that the growing digitisation of government services, businesses, financial transactions and critical infrastructure has made cybersecurity a national security and economic priority.

Tanui said a secure digital environment will be critical to the expansion of digital government, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data centres, digital financial services, e-commerce, business process outsourcing and global digital jobs.

Koyabe brings more than 30 years of experience in ICT, cybersecurity, research, policy, regulation and digital transformation. Tanui expressed confidence that Koyabe and the new board will help build a strong cybersecurity institution capable of protecting Kenya’s digital infrastructure while supporting the country’s ambitions to become a leading digital economy and innovation hub.

He said cybersecurity must remain central to efforts to build a secure, resilient and trusted digital environment as Kenya expands its digital economy.
