Kilgore Police Department recently announced their School Resource Officers have returned from a school safety conference which included specialized safety training to better equip them to protect Kilgore’s students.

“Our School Resource Officers have just returned from the National School Safety Conference, held in Grapevine,” KPD shared.

“This conference is put on by the National Association of School Resource Officers. NASRO provides training and resources for school-based law enforcement officers, often referred to as School Resource Officers (SROs). NASRO’s mission is to make schools safer by equipping SROs with the knowledge and skills to effectively fulfill their roles as law enforcement officers, educators, and informal counselors.”

According to NASRO, courses offered at the conference included basic and advanced SRO courses, as well as courses for SRO supervisors and management as well as a course on Project Unite: Violence Prevention and School Safety Team Training. SRO officers can be found on the campuses of Kilgore ISD, building rapport with students, staff and faculty while keeping the grounds safe and secure.

KPD also used the opportunity to announce their SRO program has a new supervising officer.

“Our program has a new Supervisor: Sergeant Aaron Sosa. Sgt. Sosa is a Marine Combat Veteran with over ten years of police experience. He also serves as a Team Leader on the North East Texas Regional SWAT Team. He is looking forward to leading his new team.”
