Lucknow: In a move to combat the rising threat of cybercrime, citizens must be equipped with knowledge, technical training and practical awareness.This was stated by experts during a workshop titled “Prevention and Treatment of Cyber Crime” organised at the Police Commissioner’s Office in Noida on Friday. This initiative was conducted under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and led by Police Commissioner of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Laxmi Singh. The event was a collaborative effort between the Noida Commissionerate Police and the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), Lucknow. The workshop was inaugurated by GK Goswamy, the founder and director of the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science, Lucknow. In his keynote address, Goswamy highlighted the growing menace of cybercrime in the digital age, emphasizing its implications on society, the economy and national security. “There is urgent need for citizens to be equipped with knowledge of cyber security, technical training and practical awareness to prevent internet fraud, banking scams, data theft, and online crimes against women and children,” he said. “In today’s era, data is more valuable than money. With the continuous rise in cybercrime and digital data theft, it is crucial to exercise caution when sharing data on social media,” Goswami said. He said just as financial audits, data audits will also become mandatory. Highlighting data insurance as a future challenge, he mentioned that just like crop, health, and fire insurance, digital insurance will soon become accessible to the common man. Additionally, he discussed the concept of DNA profiling, indicating that new possibilities will emerge based on genetic scientific analysis in future. The event saw active participation from locals, representatives of business associations, and victims of cybercrime. Discussions during the workshop focused on the challenges posed by cybercrime, potential solutions and strategies for effective prevention. Investigation and prosecution officers specializing in cybercrime also contributed to the dialogue, sharing insights and experiences.
