Knox Co. Sheriff’s Office provides school safety tips | #schoolsaftey #kids #parents #children

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – With the new school year starting soon for some districts, deputies with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office want people to be safe.

The department shared a statement this week, asking people to keep these tips in mind:

  • Never pass a stopped school bus from behind or from any other direction.
  • Stop far enough from a school bus to allow children to safely enter and exit the bus. It should be noted that the area ten feet around a school bus is the most dangerous area for children.
  • Be alert: children can be unpredictable.
  • Take extra care to look out for children in school zones and near playgrounds.
  • Observe speed limits that are posted, especially in school zones.
  • Be prepared for sudden stops.
  • Keep from using cell phones when driving.
