Peshawar  –  Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday directed the authorities to ensure strict enforcement of safety regulations for private schools and prepare new legislation within 15 days following the tragic roof collapse at a private school in Peshawar’s Dir Colony. Chairing a meeting at the Governor House, the Governor was briefed by Peshawar Division Commissioner Capt (Retd) Khalid Mahmood on the incident and related administrative matters. Adviser on Education Amir Abdullah, Deputy Commissioner Afaq Wazir and senior officials of the Education Department also attended the meeting. The meeting was informed that the school owner had obtained a 16-marla plot on a 10-year lease and constructed the building on it. It was further informed that the school was registered in 2026, but its management had failed to comply with the prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs). Expressing deep grief over the tragedy, Governor Kundi termed the incident highly unfortunate and stressed the need to identify and inspect buildings constructed without approved building plans. He said the Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) could play an effective role in inspecting buildings across the city. The Governor directed the authorities to ensure strict implementation of SOPs governing the establishment of private schools and the construction of their buildings. He said all relevant institutions must fulfil their responsibilities effectively and that those responsible for the incident would be held accountable. He also ordered strict enforcement of rules governing the registration and safety of private schools, along with action against institutions operating without registration certificates and the imposition of appropriate penalties. Governor Kundi directed the authorities to formulate effective legislation to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory procedures in educational institutions and submit a report within 15 days. He also emphasized the importance of transparency, effective oversight and the adoption of best administrative practices in the management of private schools. var fb_code_executed = false; window.addEventListener(“scroll”, function () { if (fb_code_executed == false) { if (document.body.scrollTop > 20 || document.documentElement.scrollTop > 20) { fb_code_executed = true; window.fbAsyncInit = function() { FB.init({ appId : 106170627023, autoLogAppEvents : true, xfbml : true, version : “v18.0” }); FB.AppEvents.logPageView(); }; (function(d, s, id){ var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;} js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, “script”, “facebook-jssdk”)); }}});
