KT will strengthen its security competitiveness in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) by investing in the information protection sector and expanding internal experts. It invested 127.6 billion won in the information protection sector last year, the largest among telecommunications companies. More than half of the security personnel were filled with internal experts.

On the occasion of the 15th Information Protection Day on the 8th, KT unveiled achievements of information security innovation such as expanding investment in information protection, fostering security experts, and establishing a security culture.

KT invested 127.6 billion won in the information protection sector as of last fiscal year. For the fourth consecutive year, the annual investment has exceeded 100 billion won. KT said it is the third largest single company in Korea and the largest among telecommunications companies.

A total of 317 people are in charge of information protection, of which 164 are internal professionals. KT explained that it is establishing an operating system centered on internal experts from security strategy establishment to core system protection and accident response.

It will also expand the development of security talent. It is running a customized security academy for IT and network developers and is also seeking to open a contract department in the field of information protection with Seoul National University.

KT will also run an “Information Protection Week” for executives and employees this month on the occasion of Information Protection Day. In order to establish information protection as an organizational culture, participatory campaigns and delivery of key security messages are conducted.

The security system is also being reorganized. Last year, KT established a master plan for information security and strengthened its information security governance and supply chain management system by reflecting recommendations from the public-private joint investigation team to prevent recurrence. It is also promoting a zero-trust-based prevention-oriented security system and AI-based security technology advancement.

Recently, it also announced a plan to invest 12 trillion won in information security, IT, and network fields over the next three years as part of its growth strategy. Of these, 4 trillion won will be spent on information security and IT innovation.

“Information security in the AI era is more important than regular prevention and preemptive response,” said Lee Sang-woon, head of KT’s information security office. “We will strengthen our security competitiveness so that customers can become the most reliable AX platform company by establishing an information security system in which organizations, personnel, and processes work together.”
