KUKA Robotics has become the first robotics manufacturer to achieve a Security Level 2 certification in accordance with the IEC 62443-4-2 cybersecurity standard for its iiQKA.OS2 operating system and KR C5-2 controller platform. The certification is targeted at securing networked manufacturing systems.

The iiQKA.OS2 operating system combines KUKA’s system reliability with enhanced cybersecurity features designed for digital manufacturing environments. The KR C5-2 controller family combines robot control with advanced security and connectivity features. 

“Cybersecurity has become a fundamental requirement for modern manufacturing,” said Ed Volcic, Regional Technology Officer for North America at KUKA Robotics Corporation. “With Security Level 2 certification, we now provide customers with automation solutions that not only deliver productivity and performance but also help protect their operations against evolving cyber threats as well.”

IEC 62443 is an internationally recognized series of standards addressing cybersecurity for industrial automation and control systems. IEC 62443-4-2 defines technical security requirements for industrial automation and control system components. Security Level 2 certification verifies that products meet defined technical security requirements designed to protect against intentional cybersecurity threats from attackers with limited resources and technical expertise.

The certification supports manufacturers across industries including automotive, aerospace, electronics, logistics and general manufacturing that require secure automation platforms capable of meeting both operational and cybersecurity objectives.
