Labour refers Nigel Farage’s Russia phone hack claim to police | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #hacker

The Labour Party has reported allegations to police that Reform UK leader Nigel Farage’s phone may have been hacked by Russia.

Farage originally claimed the revelation of his £5 million gift from crypto-millionaire and party mega-donor Christopher Harborne – now under investigation by the Commons sleaze watchdog – was due to Russian interference into his phone and emails.

Labour’s chairwoman, Anna Turley, gave Farage 24 hours on Wednesday to publicly confirm that he or Reform UK had reported their claims of hostile state activity by Russia to the relevant authorities.

Labour said Reform has failed to confirm whether they reported the hack and that “it remains unclear what proactive action they have taken”.

Labour Party chairwoman Anna Turley said she has reported the allegations to police.

Turley said she has since referred the allegations to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and the Metropolitan Police.

ITV News understands that Reform UK has reported the alleged hack to the relevant authorities.

A party source said: “Labour are on the ropes and they’re just playing games.

In her original letter to Farage, Turley outlined her concerns, saying: “This would constitute a serious cybercrime and a potential hostile-state operation directed at the leader of a British political party.”

Following Labour’s report to the authorities, Turley continued to stress the “wider implications for Britain’s national security” and political integrity.

Although the NCSC could not confirm whether Reform reported the suspected attack, it said it stands “ready to support with any suspected cyber incident that is reported to us”.

It added: “Defending democracy is always our priority and we provide a range of expert guidance, support and active cyber defence services to help protect individuals from online attacks.”
