Brent Groff, 27, must register as a Megan’s Law offender and undergo mandatory counseling for the rest of his life as a result of the determination, prosecutors say.
LANCASTER, Pa. — A Lancaster County man serving 10 to 25 years in prison for repeatedly raping and sexually assaulting a young girl over a period of years can be deemed as a Sexually Violent Predator following a recent ruling by a Lancaster County judge.
At a hearing on May 18, Judge Merrill Spahn handed down the ruling to Brent Matthew Groff, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.
While Groff is already required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life after pleading guilty to 15 felony and misdemeanor charges in the case last October, being designated a Sexually Violent Predator means he also faces lifetime Megan’s Law registration and mandatory counseling for the rest of his life, the DA’s Office said.
Groff, 27, admitted he raped and sexually assaulted the victim multiple times and at multiple locations between about 2015 until around October 2023, according to prosecutors.
The victim told police Groff began assaulting her at a Pequea Township residence they shared in the 100 block of Charleston when she was about 8 years old and he was 16.
Groff at first denied the victim’s allegations when he spoke to investigators but later called police to admit that many of the victim’s claims were true.
He pleaded guilty in October 2025 to rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, aggravated indecent assault, statutory sexual assault and sexual assault, among other offenses.
Spahn sentenced him to a prison term of 10 to 25 years in December.
