LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – The Laredo ISD Police Department held its annual back-to-school meeting Thursday, bringing together police officers, security personnel and campus safety staff to review expectations, responsibilities and plans for the upcoming school year.
Officials said preparations began before the meeting. Throughout the summer, the department conducted a series of training sessions focused on campus security and emergency response.
“Earlier this summer, we’ve had many sessions of active shooter training at our Cigarroa Middle School facility together with Laredo Police Department,” LISD police chief Doreen Hale said. “That is important to have that training, and it also is a mandated training from House Bill 3. That we need to have that training every two years at least.”
Each Laredo ISD campus is staffed with both a police officer and a security guard.
District officials are also encouraging students to report any suspicious activity, or safety concerns they see on campus.
