LANSING, Mich. (News 10) – Former physician Larry Nassar is among more than 20,000 convicted sex offenders removed from Michigan’s sex offender registry, according to a Facebook post Tuesday by the Eaton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
The removal follows a major ruling earlier this month by the Michigan Supreme Court determining that individuals who committed sex offenses prior to July 2011 cannot be required to comply with the state’s current sex offender registry law.

In a unanimous decision, the court ruled that applying the 2021 law retroactively to older cases imposes unconstitutional punishment after the fact.
The ruling does not affect individuals whose offenses took place on or after July 1, 2011. Those offenders remain subject to current state registration requirements.
Nassar was tried in Eaton and Ingham Counties, ultimately pleading guilty to seven counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving minor victims in Ingham County and three counts in Eaton County.
He was sentenced to 40-to-175 years in state prison for the Ingham County charges and an additional 40-to-125 years for the charges in Eaton County.
Nassar also pleaded guilty to child pornography charges at the federal level and received an additional 60-year sentence.
