State Sen. April Weaver (R-Brierfield) blasted HD-41 Democrat nominee David Morgan, who recently referred to her and other lawmakers responsible for the recently enacted Child Predator Death Penalty Act as “perverted, sexual deviants” and “Christian Nationalists.”
The law carried by both Weaver and State Rep. Matt Simpson (R-Daphne), making certain sexual crimes against children under the age of 12 punishable by death, officially went into effect on October 1.

In response, Morgan, who is challenging incumbent State Rep. Corley Ellis (R-Columbiana) in the November 3 general election, released a screed on social media, hitting Weaver and the supporters of the law with a litany of negative accusations.
“I have often spoken about the dangers of Christian Nationalism in my public speaking,” Morgan said. “This law is the result of perverted, sexual deviants, like Senator April Weaver, imposing their “religious” beliefs on the legal system. Christian Nationalists don’t care about life. They care about purity and control, no matter the cost.”
“That’s why a person can now be executed for placing an inanimate object, like a popsicle, in a child’s mouth the same as for violently torturing and murdering the same child. Most of the actions covered by this law are horrible, heinous crimes and the people that commit them are the scum of the earth. But, none of the crimes covered by this law are the same as murder.”
Morgan argued that the law will result in fewer reports of sexual abuse and “hundreds of innocent people” being incarcerated.
While that and Morgan’s interpretation could be chalked up to spurious legal analysis of a self-boasting “eagle scout, small business owner [and] former 911 director,” Weaver chose to focus on the law’s support amongst the state’s law enforcement and prosecutorial community, while using the diatribe to signal the significance of ticking the right ballot in November.
“The November 3 general election is a choice between the Alabama Common Sense offered by Republican candidates and the California-style Craziness that Democrats up and down the state ballot are promoting,” Weaver wrote.
She continued, “The Child Predator Death Penalty Act was drafted with the input and cooperation of veteran prosecutors, sheriffs and police chiefs, and child advocates, but this Democrat candidate’s liberal logic suggests his uninformed opinion outweighs their decades of professional frontline experience in combatting sex crimes against the most innocent among us.”
Weaver finished her response by flatly denying the accusation of Christian Nationalism, calling it indicative of the “Woke Extremism” rampant in the state’s Democratic candidates.
“The suggestion that the Child Predator Death Penalty Act is the result of ‘Christian Nationalism’ is, quite frankly, nuttier than squirrel poop and offers solid proof that Woke Extremism is alive and well on the Democrat side of the Alabama ballot,” she added.
