Local law enforcement leaders responded to a rumor regarding illegal activity in the Chaffee County area.
In a comment on an unrelated report from Ark Valley Voice (AVV), Douggy De Guadalupe Stinnett alleged that there was a “child predator” ring “running rampant” and that AVV was ignoring it.
Stinnett stated arrests had been made in the county.

To be thorough, AVV contacted Chaffee Sheriff Andy Rohrich, Salida Police Chief Russ Johnson, and Buena Vista (BV) Police Chief Dean Morgan. All three law enforcement leaders stated they had no knowledge of such an operation in Chaffee County.
“We at the Sheriff’s Office are unaware of any of this information,” stated Sheriff Rohrich.
Rohrich added, “We also have a very strong relationship with CBI and FBI sex crimes and human trafficking divisions. Having said that I feel very confident that we would be in the know if they were working something in our area.”
“I know nothing about this claim,” stated Chief Johnson.
“I don’t know about any arrests on something like this,” commented Chief Morgan.
He continued, “We get tips on occasion with people that see something that doesn’t seem right, and we look into these and appreciate citizen tips like these. But we have not had any case like this that has led to any trafficking arrests.”
