Lucknow: In a major step towards strengthening cybercrime investigation capabilities, the Lucknow Police Commissionerate has launched a structured training programme for newly posted inspectors, sub-inspectors, head constables, and constables. The initiative, aimed at building digital investigative proficiency, is being conducted under the guidance of the commissioner and the joint commissioner (crime & headquarters), with training sessions led by the ADCP, crime/cyber cell. The comprehensive training focuses on several critical aspects of cybercrime investigation. Officers have been sensitised to emerging cybercrime trends such as digital arrest scams, cryptocurrency-based frauds, and syndicate-run cyber extortion operations. They are also being trained in gathering digital evidence using various national and internal portals to trace digital footprints and track suspects in real time. Special emphasis has been placed on interdepartmental coordination, with a directive to form joint teams between local police stations and cyber cells to ensure seamless investigations. The session also included discussions on setting up a cyber forensic lab in the commissionerate to bolster evidence analysis and case-building capabilities. Officers were further educated on legal and judicial protocols governing cyber offences, including procedures for arrest, digital evidence preservation, and admissibility in court. A dedicated feedback session allowed participants to share on-ground challenges and suggest improvements in infrastructure and response mechanisms.
