MARYLAND (WBFF) — Patients are suing Maryland hospital system Luminis Health over a cybersecurity incident that has left crucial systems offline for over two weeks.
While the federal lawsuit references a “data breach,” Luminis Health has not answered the Capital Gazette’s repeated questions about whether patient information was compromised.
The first lawsuit, filed last Friday, is seeking class action status. The suit claims that Luminis Health failed to “properly secure and safeguard” current and former patients’ personally identifiable information and protected health information.
“The ramifications of Luminis’s failure to keep Plaintiff’s and Class Members’ Private Information secure are long-lasting and severe,” the lawsuit states. “Once Private Information is stolen, fraudulent use of that information and damage to victims may continue for years.”
