Lucido and Assistant Macomb Prosecutor Tonya Goetz, who leads the juvenile unit, will discuss what happens when students break the law. Topics include threats, weapons at school, bullying, and other criminal actions. Students need to know what they’re risking.
“Every student deserves to learn in an environment where they feel safe, respected, and supported,” Lucido said in a press release per Macomb Daily. “The start of a new school year is the perfect time for our community to come together and discuss how we can prevent problems before they occur.”
Parents have a part to play here too. The sessions will address how moms, dads, and guardians can talk with kids about making smart choices. Goetz and Lucido plan to share resources like OK2SAY for anonymous tips and local mental health services that can help families in crisis.
Some acts seem harmless to teens but carry real penalties. Sexting and sharing explicit photos fall into this category. The Prosecutor’s Office runs a school program where staff visit middle and high schools to explain what happens when students violate laws.
A question-and-answer period will close each session, giving attendees thirty minutes to voice concerns.
The Oct. 1 meeting runs 6 to 7:30 p.m. at University Center 1, Lecture Hall A, Center Campus, 44575 Garfield Rd., Clinton Township. The Oct. 8 session happens at the same time at South Campus, K Building – John Lewis Center, Room 301, 14500 E. 12 Mile, Warren.
