A Carrollton man has been charged in Madison County Court after a private group used a sting operation to find who they believe to be online predators. 39 year old Aaron Settles is alleged to have tried to meet up with who he thought was a 14 year old on the parking lot of Walgreens in Upper Alton after contacting them online.
Alton Police were notified of the contact made between Settles and members of Online Predator Intervention, telling authorities there was a planned meeting on the store parking lot on July 31st. Alton Police located Settles outside the store and questioned him while group members recorded the scene and then posted videos to their website and social media pages. Settles was taken into custody and charged this week with indecent solicitation of a child, grooming, traveling to meet a minor, and unlawful possession of meth. He is being held pending a SAFE-T Act hearing on Monday August 10th.
