LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — A massive data breach has exposed billions of login records, making it one of the largest breaches in history. Chris Rader, a cybersecurity expert and CEO of Rader Solutions, explained tips on protecting your data.

Rader noted that 16 billion passwords were made vulnerable by the breach, emphasizing the vast scale of the leak.

“Put it in simple terms, Al, your login and your password is out on the dark web and somebody has it. We’ve never had a data breach of this size, of this magnitude,” Rader said.

He explained that hackers are using social engineering tactics to exploit the leaked information, warning that personal cell phone data has been exposed. This allows cybercriminals to piece together personal details to target individuals.

Rader expressed concern about the amount of personal information shared on social media. He advised against participating in games that reveal personal details like mother’s maiden names or places visited, which can be used to answer security questions.

He also warned about artificial intelligence being used to extract sensitive information from platforms like Facebook Marketplace.

“This data breach is something to be of concern for everybody,” Rader stated.

To protect against these threats, Rader recommends changing passwords, using multifactor authentication, and considering passkeys or authenticators.
