Meghan Markle‘s spokesperson is coming to her defense after the Duchess of Sussex recently posted photos of her children despite publicly advocating for privacy.
“The Duchess has always been clear that there is a distinction between sharing moments from her life and exposing her children to public scrutiny,” the spokesperson told Newsweek in an article published Wednesday, June 3.
“By obscuring their faces, she is demonstrating the very principle she advocates for: giving children privacy, agency, and protection in an increasingly digital world,” the rep added.
However, when the former Suits star, 44, made a speech in Geneva on May 17, she advocated for stronger global protections for kids online and called for more privacy.
Still, the rep said, “Far from being contradictory, by concealing their faces she is actually reflecting the message she delivered in Geneva: that parents can choose to share family experiences while still taking deliberate steps to protect identities, privacy, and digital footprint.”
The rep’s statement comes one day before Princess Lilibet celebrates her 5th birthday on Thursday, June 4.

On May 16, Prince Harry‘s wife shared a mirror selfie to Instagram with her daughter, though her back was to the camera, so her face was concealed.
She also recently shared a carousel of images of her and her family at Disneyland. However, Lilibet and Prince Archie‘s faces are never fully seen.
When Meghan gave a speech for the World Health Organization in Switzerland last month, she spoke about the importance of protecting children’s privacy, especially when it comes to social media.
“How many more millions of children will be harmed by products that, while innovative, are still designed without sufficient safeguards?” Meghan asked the crowd.
The duchess called for action, saying that it is society’s responsibility to start making change.
“We did not tell parents to create their own seatbelts. We did not ask children to test unsafe medicine. We did not shrug at poisoned water or defective toys and call it the price of progress,” she said. “We acted. And now the world must act again.”
