WASHINGTON (TNND) — A recent FBI probe found that millions of Canadian and U.S. drivers’ licenses were sold on the dark web.
Earlier this week, an independent journalist reported that he found a scam on the dark web where digital drivers’ licenses from the U.S. and Canada were being sold.
The FBI said Wednesday that it was looking into the incident but couldn’t elaborate because the investigation was ongoing, according to the New York Post.
If the breach is confirmed, it could create a huge identity theft and fraud crisis for millions of individuals.
Brian Krebs, the independent reporter who discovered this information said the scam was advertised on a cybercrime forum in Russia.
Tackling fraud has become one of the top priorities of President Donald Trump’s second term.
There is a fraud task force led by Vice President J.D. Vance.
The White House recently launched a website called “The Fraud Ledger” to show the success of the task force.
“$229+ BILLION uncovered – and counting,” the White House wrote on the social media platform, X. “The first transparent public record tracking fraud, waste, and corruption exposed by the Trump Admin’s Task Force to Eliminate Fraud since January 2025.”
