MILTON, Fla. — The City of Milton says its information was secured during a suspected cybersecurity attack in 2025.

The city says it detected suspicious activity consistent with a ransomware attack on Dec. 26, 2025. Steps were immediately taken to secure its network.

City council and the appropriate authorities were notified. To contain the incident, they coordinated with law enforcement and cybersecurity professionals.

“State and federal law enforcement agencies, cybersecurity experts, and legal counsel provided through the City’s insurance providers led the investigation into the matter,” according to the city. “Based on the evidence available, there is no indication that any City information was accessed, acquired, copied, leaked, posted publicly, or otherwise taken in connection with this incident.”

The city says it followed proper protocol in response to the incident, and it met all applicable notification and reporting requirements under Florida law.

“Records associated with a cybersecurity incident are confidential and exempt from public disclosure pursuant to Section 119.0725, Florida Statutes,” the city said.

The city says more security upgrades were implemented. They’ll keep bettering its systems to lessen cybersecurity risks in the future.
