MOORHEAD — Minnesota State University Moorhead is launching a new Bachelor of Arts degree in cybercrime this fall.

The program was first mentioned as a work in progress during the college’s first State of the University address in September.

Cybercrime combines cybersecurity, criminal justice and legal studies, preparing students to investigate, detect and prevent crime in the online world.

“Ninety percent of crimes, approximately, now have a digital footprint, like pretty much any crime has a digital feature to it,” said MSUM sociology professor Karen Branden. “So in my class, they’re learning about all of the features of those crimes that involve people making decisions.”

According to MSUM’s website, the university is the only school in Minnesota offering a cybercrime program.
