The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has received 105 Nigerians rescued during a coordinated operation against cybercrime syndicates in Ghana.
The agency disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by its Head of Press and Public Relations Unit, Vincent Adekoye.
According to the statement, the operation was coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser following a request for assistance from Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority.
The operation involved several Nigerian security and law enforcement agencies, led by NAPTIP, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.
Other participating organisations included the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and other partners.
The Ghanaian government reportedly rescued 119 Nigerians during the operation, with 105 repatriated to Nigeria while the remaining 14 were undergoing processing.
Receiving the returnees on behalf of the Federal Government, NAPTIP Director-General, Binta Lami Adamu Bello, welcomed the survivors and assured them of their safety.
