Nearly 100 People Detained Following Cybercrime Operations in Turkiye | #cybercrime | #infosec


Over the span of two weeks, Turkish police have carried out large-scale operations against cybercrime in a total of 44 provinces across the country, including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, Mersin, Adana, and others.

According to the Milliyet newspaper, which cites a statement by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, the operations were aimed at uncovering crimes such as “sexual abuse of minors in the online environment, illegal gambling, laundering of assets obtained from criminal activity, fraud, and theft.”

A total of 214 people were detained during the operations. 99 of them were remanded in custody and 21 were placed under judicial control. The investigation against the remaining suspects is ongoing.

During searches of various addresses, a large amount of digital material, cryptocurrency, gold, and cash were seized. Three cars and two homes were confiscated, which were found to have been acquired illegally.

The operations were carried out by teams from the Cybercrime Directorate of the General Directorate for Security in coordination with local public prosecutors.
