NetApp partners Elastio to ensure clean backup recovery against ransomware threats | #ransomware | #cybercrime

Embeds continuous snapshot inspection to detect hidden threats and strengthen recovery confidence.

NetApp has partnered with Elastio to strengthen ransomware resilience by embedding backup integrity verification directly into its storage layer.

The integration adds Elastio’s recovery validation technology into NetApp’s ransomware resilience service.

This will ensure that enterprise backup data remains clean and usable during recovery.

NetApp’s SVP and GM of data services, Gagan Gulati, said, “Storage needs to be part of the conversation when defining a holistic cyber security strategy. By protecting data where it lives, we make storage a priority to combat cyber threats like ransomware. But the stakes for business resilience and operational continuity are too high to rely on a single layer of defense.”

“By collaborating with Elastio, we’re giving enterprises another tool to protect their most critical asset: data,” Gulati said.

The move comes as ransomware increasingly bypasses traditional security layers and infiltrates backup systems before detection, leaving organisations with compromised recovery points during incidents.

The combined offering embeds Elastio’s Provable Recovery Control into NetApp’s Ransomware Resilience Service as a native capability.

This enables continuous inspection of snapshots to detect hidden ransomware, zero-day threats, and silent data corruption that may evade perimeter defenses.

The service identifies the last known clean recovery point, allowing enterprises to restore systems with confidence.

According to NetApp, its ransomware resilience service already provides real-time detection and containment at the data layer, immutable snapshots, and guided recovery workflows across ONTAP environments.

With this integration, the service now extends protection beyond detection into verified recovery.

Adopt without modifying existing infrastructure

Ransomware attacks are increasingly designed to remain undetected while spreading across systems and reaching backup data.

In many cases, organisations discover that their backups are compromised only when attempting recovery during an active attack.

The joint solution addresses this gap by continuously validating backup data before an incident occurs, shifting the focus from prevention alone to ensuring recoverability.

The integrated capability will be delivered within the NetApp service without requiring separate procurement or architectural changes, allowing enterprises to adopt it without modifying existing infrastructure.

The solution is expected to be available in the near term, starting with Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, with plans to expand across other ONTAP environments.

The partnership reflects a shift in enterprise security priorities, where ensuring clean and reliable recovery is becoming as critical as detecting attacks.
