NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Newport Beach community members learned the ins and outs of properly installing child safety seats, thanks to the Newport Beach Police Department’s Mobile Cafe community engagement event.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 46 percent of car seats are misused or improperly installed.
Newport Beach City Manager Grace Leung said the department offers complimentary child safety seat inspections for parents and caregivers. The inspections, she said, are conducted by NBPD officers who are certified child passenger safety technicians, trained through the Safe Kids Worldwide organization.
“Officers work with parents and caregivers to ensure proper installation of car seats and provide education on safety considerations,” Leung told Patch. “Caregivers actively participate in the process, leaving with the knowledge and confidence needed to secure their children safely every time they travel.”
