It looks like the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to be a tough time for hackers, as some reportedly already have units of their own and have found that it’s much more protected than the original Switch.

There isn’t a developer or publisher out there that likes it when consumers try to hack their games or consoles, but no one quite hates it as much as Nintendo. As several lawsuits and controversies have proven in the past, Nintendo is really against hacking and piracy, especially during the Nintendo Switch era.

That being said, Nintendo’s dislike of hacking hasn’t really translated to its consoles and games over the past few years, as the Nintendo Switch seemingly didn’t give anyone much trouble when it came to cracking it. It looks like that’s not going to be the case for the Nintendo Switch 2, if early reports can be believed.

Hackers Are Reportedly Already Having Trouble With The Switch 2

Nintendo Isn’t Giving Any Chances This Generation

As pointed out by Twitter user Stealth40k, it seems that some of the people somehow already getting their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 a week before its launch are hackers, although they’re not having the success you might expect. Over on the switch2hacks subreddit, a post was made claiming that the alleged hackers with Switch 2’s are finding out the hard way that it’s much more protected than before.

The post from Redditor RojaTop highlights a thread shared on GBATemp, where three hackers have been trying out some exploits on the Switch 2. According to the post, hackers have been immediately locked out of the Switch 2 by using MIG Switch, turning it into a brick that keeps on “bootlooping”, essentially making it unplayable.

Another hacker allegedly tried “prodding the flash storage of the ROM chip” and once again turned their Switch 2 into a brick. The post theorises that the Switch 2 is somehow able to detect voltage changes even when they’re “minor”, which will make cracking it a tall task by the sounds of it – just like Nintendo previously promised.

Of course, since the Switch 2 isn’t actually out yet and getting an early unit seems like a tall task, it’s worth taking these claims with a grain of salt. Nintendo has made it clear it’s very against hackers, though, so it does seem believable.

We won’t know for sure until more Switch 2 consoles are out there, but it looks like Nintendo went all-out on making sure it was as tough to get into as possible. I still wouldn’t put getting in past hackers, but if you’re expecting it to be cracked at launch, you might be in for a long wait.
