A North Versailles man is facing charges after Pennsylvania State Police said he was having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
Luis Yupangui Castro, 21, is charged with statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault of person less than 16 years of age, child pornography-related charges, child sexual abuse material, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and criminal use of communication facility.
State police initiated the investigation in July when it was reported to law enforcement that Yupangui Castro was allegedly having inappropriate communications and exchanging sexually explicit pictures with an underage girl.
A relative of the victim observed the inappropriate communication on the victim’s cellphone and reported it to their mother, police said.
State police spoke to the victim who said she met him at a party at a family friend’s residence and found Yupangui Castro’s profile on Instagram.
The victim told investigators she snuck out of her house on five separate occasions to meet up with Yupangui Castro, police said.
The two engaged in sexual activity on at least two occasions and recorded one of the acts on a cellphone, according to investigators.
Troopers obtained a digital download of the victim’s cellphone and reviewed the sexually explicit content between the victim and Yupangui Castro.
Yupangui Castro was deemed a flight risk and denied bail.
He is currently being held at Westmoreland County Prison awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 5, according to court documents.
