Vijayawada: State DGP Harish Kumar Gupta on Wednesday inaugurated the NTR police commissionerate’s Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (C4) at Krishna Lanka police station, with the facility aimed at strengthening the police response to cyber offences through technology and specialised teams.The C4 centre has been established on the third floor of the Krishna Lanka police station with the support of the AP Police Housing Corporation. The facility was developed under the guidance of NTR Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhara Babu and the supervision of Cyber Crime DCP K Krishna Prasanna and Cyber Crime ACP Bhanu Prakash Reddy.Speaking at the inauguration, DGP Gupta said cybercrime cases were a serious challenge in the state, similar to the problem posed by drugs. He said the government was bringing in a Cyber Guard Policy to strengthen efforts against cyber offences.The state was also preparing to establish a cyber war room, while similar C4 centres and specialised teams would be set up in every district, he said. Each district would have 20 cyber constables, according to the DGP.Gupta stressed that victims should report cyber offences immediately. “1930” should be called without delay to register a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Helpline, or complaints could be filed through the cybercrime portal, www.cybercrime.gov.in, he said.Rajasekhara Babu said the C4 centre would analyse every piece of information from the victim’s complaint to the trail of the suspected offender and follow available evidence to prevent cyber offences and help victims get justice. He added that recovery of property and cash in cyber crimes significantly increased to 5% from 2% in last two years.He said a dedicated cyber SI would be appointed at every police station to handle cybercrime complaints and conduct investigations. The personnel would also organise awareness programmes in communities.Cyber SIs and cybercrime staff would receive training in modern technology and investigation methods, he said.The commissioner said the department was also using videos featuring characters such as ‘Khaki Babu’ and ‘Cyber Chitti’, along with publicity vehicles and drone-based audio messages, to spread awareness about cyber safety.
