THIS IS KOCO FIVE NEWS AT TEN. AN UNUSUAL VICTIM OF A CYBER ATTACK. SOME DRIVERS SAY THEY COULD NOT START THEIR CARS BECAUSE THEY’RE IN-CAR. BREATHALYZERS WERE HACKED. WELL, THE COMPANY THAT MAKES THESE BREATHALYZERS SAY THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED, BUT SOME IN OKC SAY IT HAS LED TO OTHER PROBLEMS. KOCO JASON BURGER JOINING US LIVE TONIGHT. JASON, YOU TALKED WITH THE MAN WHO’S NOW TRYING TO GET SOME MONEY BACK. THAT’S RIGHT. AND WITH THESE DEVICES, YOU BASICALLY HAVE TO TAKE A BREATHALYZER TEST TO START YOUR CAR. NOW AFTER THE HACK, THIS OKC MAN HAD MORE PROBLEMS. IT’S ONGOING AND ONGOING AND ONGOING. AND I’M LIKE, I AM SO DONE WITH THIS. THIS OKC MAN TOLD US ABOUT HIS RECENT EXPERIENCE WITH TOXIC SHOCK, A COMPANY THAT MAKES COURT ORDERED IGNITION INTERLOCK DEVICES, OR BREATHALYZERS INSTALLED IN CARS THAT WON’T START A CAR WITHOUT A CLEAN BREATH TEST. BUT EARLIER THIS MONTH, THE COMPANY WENT THROUGH A CYBERSECURITY INCIDENT. THEY WERE HACKED, TAKING UBER’S CALLED FRIENDS, SO ON AND SO FORTH. JUST ANY WAY I GET TO WORK. SO HE DROPPED HIS CAR OFF AT A SHOP UNTIL THEY COULD UNINSTALL THAT SYSTEM, WHICH TOOK SEVERAL DAYS. OTHER PEOPLE ACROSS THE COUNTRY COULDN’T EVEN START THEIR CARS BECAUSE OF THIS. YOU CAN’T DO ANYTHING. YOU NEED GROCERIES. YOU GOT TO GO TO WORK. YOU GOT TO DO SOMETHING. HE’S DONE HIS TIME WITH THE BREATHALYZER SYSTEM IN HIS CAR, AND WAS ALREADY IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET IT UNINSTALLED. MONDAY IS WHEN I GOT IT UNINSTALLED. TUESDAYS, WHEN THEY SAID MY ACCOUNT WAS CLOSED. WHEN WHEN I WAS DONE WITH THEM. BUT NOW THERE’S A NEW PROBLEM. I ASKED HIM IF THERE WAS ANYTHING ELSE OWED. STUFF LIKE THAT. THEY SAID NO, AND I SAID, OKAY, WELL, I’M. SO WE’RE DONE. I DON’T NEED TO CALL YOU ALL. DON’T NEED TO CHECK IN NOTHING WITH Y’ALL. AND THEY SAID, NO. IN TALKS, A LOCK AUTOMATICALLY WITHDREW MONEY FROM HIM AFTER HE GOT THEIR EQUIPMENT REMOVED FROM HIS CAR AND HIS ACCOUNT WAS PAID IN FULL. I HAD TO GO TO THE BANK AND I HAD TO SHUT THAT CAR DOWN, AND I HAD TO DISPUTE THE CHARGES BECAUSE I’M NOT GOING TO SIT ON THE PHONE WITH THEM FOR DAYS ON END, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THAT $70 WENT. AND HE’S DISPUTING THAT CHARGE, BUT NOT OPTIMISTIC HE’LL GET IT BACK. GET SOME OF THAT MONEY BACK. AND IF I COULD REIMBURSE THE PEOPLE THAT THAT HELPED ME OUT IN A TIME OF NEED, YOU KNOW, THAT’D BE GREAT. BUT IT’S GOING TO COME OUT OF MY POCKET. NOW, WE DID REACH OUT TO IN TALKS A LOT FOR COMMENT, BUT WE DID NOT HEAR BACK TODAY. HOWEVER, ON FACEBOOK ON MONDAY, THEY POSTED THAT THIS ENTIRE CYBER ISSUE HAD BEEN RESOLVED, BUT THEY DID NOT PROVIDE ANY

Earlier this month, Intoxalock experienced a cybersecurity incident, resulting in a hack that left many unable to start their cars without a clean breath test.

“Taking Ubers, called friends, anyway I could get to work,” he said, describing how he managed to commute while his car was out of service. He dropped his car off at a shop until they could uninstall the system, which took several days. Many others across the country faced similar issues.

“You need groceries, you gotta go to work…you gotta do something,” he said, emphasizing the inconvenience caused by the hack.

He had completed his time with the breathalyzer system and was in the process of having it uninstalled.
