(TNS) — Old Dominion University has become the first college in Virginia to offer an interdisciplinary doctoral degree program in cybersecurity. University officials said it is one of the only colleges in the nation with such a program.
The degree path through the School of Cybersecurity is available this fall. The university expects 12-15 students to pursue it during the 2026-27 academic year.
The post-graduate degree, to the university, reflects not only an expansion of cyber studies at ODU but also a growth in demand within the field of cybersecurity nationally. The School of Cybersecurity was just a handful of students years ago. Now now it hovers around 1,700.
Students within the program will have individualized research focuses, according to Daniel Takabi, director of the School of Cybersecurity. Some of the research topics will center on artificial intelligence applications to security, cybersecurity infrastructure, supply chain security and data privacy. Takabi encouraged applicants from different backgrounds to apply as cybersecurity specializations include overlap with managerial, policy and legal fields.
The School of Cybersecurity was last year recognized by the National Security Agency for pioneering artificial intelligence cyber applications.
