DURANT, Okla. (KXII) – A Durant man was recently arrested accused of a felony child sex crime after he was targeted by a online group that seeks to expose child predators.
Nicholas Brooks, 36, was confronted by Oklahoma Predator Prevention, a group dedicated to tracking predators, on a live stream.
Brooks was allegedly exchanging text messages with a person he thought was a 15-year-old boy he found on a dating app.
But it turns out, the person behind the screen was an undercover member of Oklahoma Predator Prevention, Super K.
“He groomed him for about a week, and then eventually it would turn sexual. Like ‘you need to do this to prepare,’” Super K explained.
Super K said he and Brooks had active conversations for two months. Brooks first came off as a mentor, offering advice and emotional support.
“He was trying to tell the boy how to, you know, come out to his parents and that he had been experienced, and had a hard time coming out to his family.”
But then it escalated to messages that Super K described as graphic.
“He said multiple times throughout the conversation he knew this was wrong, but that if nobody knew, it would be okay.”
OPP found Brooks’ address and went to Durant with a live audience.
“I told him about the messages. I was like, ‘You want to have a talk with us, or do you want to have a talk with the cops?’ And he said he would have a talk with us, and he invited us into his house,” said the president of Oklahoma Predator Prevention, Sonik.
He said Brooks admitted to his actions, then they called Durant police.
“Once we do everything is turned over to law enforcement, and they’re able to, you know, do their investigation and pursue it from there,” said Super K.
Brooks was booked into the Bryan County Jail for soliciting sexual conduct or communication with a minor by use of technology, indecent exposure, and violation of Oklahoma computer crimes.
