PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) – An organization that investigates potential online predators and alerts police tipped off authorities to a suspect in Plainfield.
Clayton Maheu, 49, of the Wauregan section of Plainfield, was arrested on the strength of a warrant on Aug. 20, Plainfield police said.
They said they were alerted by a Texas-based organization called Predator Poachers on Dec. 29, 2025 that Maheu had online communications with someone posing as an 11-year-old girl.
Search and seizure warrants were obtained by authorities.
Police said they seized multiple electronic devices from Maheu’s home, which were sent to the state’s Forensics Laboratory for examination.
They said the lab recovered hundreds of images and videos depicting child sex abuse material, as well as additional child exploitative and computer-generated/animated child sexual exploitation material.
The arrest warrant was approved on Aug. 19 and Maheu was arrested the next day.
Police said they charged him with first-degree illegal possession of child pornography and criminal attempt at enticing a minor under the age of 13.
Maheu was held on a court-set bond of $150,000.
He was scheduled to face a judge on Friday in Danielson.
