Williamsport, Pa. — A Jersey Shore man who attempted to meet children online was sentenced Tuesday at the Lycoming County Courthouse.
Bobby Gene George, 24, will spend up to 21 months at a state correctional institution and another three years on probation after his release. George will be registered on the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) list for 15 years.
George, who agreed to plead guilty to corruption of minors and criminal use of a communication facility, will be required to do an in-person check-in once a year, notify authorities of address changes, and make monthly check-ins over the phone. He is to have no contact with minors. After an evaluation, authorities said George did not meet the criteria to be labeled a sexually violent predator.
Deputy Public Defender Matthew Welickovitch called the sentence “steep” when speaking with Judge Ryan Tira. First ADA Martin Wade negotiated the plea deal, allowing George to plead guilty on April 21. George, who has been incarcerated since being charged on March 19, will get credit for some time served.
George was filmed by a vigilante on Dec. 19 outside his apartment building in Jersey Shore. The recording was later turned over to police and posted online.
After the decoy disclosed their age, George continued to asked sexually charged questions. He gave the person his address and sent them a picture of his apartment building.
George was originally charged with statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, and criminal use of a communication facility.
