Open source AI is ‘critical’ for gaining a foothold on global cybersecurity | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #ransomware

Um, and Matt, I want to get into some specific names, but first I still want to get your take on this sort of open versus closed model debate that we heard, um, that Jensen Wong has has dived into this week, um, and that has really also we had the open versus closed, um, debate because of the Chinese models that um have been making advances. How how does that, how do you think about his argument and that consortium’s argument that open source is necessary for security?

00:36 Speaker B

Yeah, I think, you know, ultimately when when you look at how diverse the playing field is, um having some of these open models um is really we think critical to to getting sort of a broader uh global stance on cybersecurity because this is not just any one company or any one nation for that matter. And so, you know, having more open standards, you know, starting with open weights but even broader uh just open models, we think it is critical to to, you know, understanding, you know, how these threats are connected and and and really

01:21 Speaker B

you know, when when you’re in that more partnership model, um, you know, from especially from a cyber security perspective, you we think that will have key advantages going forward. So I would expect that those there’s going to be more investments on the open side. I think you’ll see even more advancements with some of the some of the cyber vendors and and in in thinking about supporting open models because to to me that feels like, um, you know, this is it’s it’s it’s it’s it’s a very, very difficult environment, things move very rapidly and ultimately we think, you know, the more of that open model is is where some of these cyber vendors could turn to.

Um, it it seems as though the conventional wisdom um is that cyber security firms are going to benefit from all of this, right? Most of these stocks, many of the stocks, especially the big players have done well this year, um after sort of getting hit in the overall software sell off. They’ve they a lot of them have come back. Is that the right way to look at it? Like these things, these companies are more important than ever and what’s going to distinguish the ones that do better and the ones that don’t?

02:40 Speaker B

Yeah, I think, you know, if you if you put yourself in the shoes of of of an organization, um, you know, there’s a race to adopt AI, but there’s also a lot of concern that, you know, are we moving too quickly? Are we opening ourselves up for potential threats or or or or malware. And and often times, you know, these organizations, these these are looking for trusted partners to help provide framework and guard rails for AI adoption, AI advancements. And so we do think, yeah, the the the the move in some of the big cyber consolidators, um, you know, is is a direct reflection of that. You know, we we spent some time recently with a number of these vendors and, you know, the pipeline growth, uh, it certainly feels like it’s there. Uh, and I think, you know, ultimately, you know, when I talk to Cisoss, just as much as they’re looking for uh, you know, trusted partners on the AI side, you know, they’re looking for some of these, you know, established cyber vendors to to really provide a new sense of of guard rails for adoption. And so, yeah, it makes a lot of sense that that we’ve seen a a pretty sharp rebound in some of these cyber names. I think the question becomes though, how quickly will that pipeline convert?
