Operation crackdown 2.0 launched to monitor cyber offenders | #cybercrime | #infosec

In a major push to curb repeat offences, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has launched a statewide operation titled Operation Crackdown 2.0. This initiative marks one of the most extensive post-arrest monitoring drives undertaken by the state police. The operation focuses on tracking previously arrested cybercrime accused to prevent continued involvement in illegal activities. Officials said the initiative is part of a zero-tolerance approach, targeting offenders linked to financial frauds and multiple criminal networks. Between 2024 and 2025, a total of 3,567 cybercrime accused were arrested across Telangana. Out of these, 614 residents were shortlisted for intensive verification based on the severity and recurrence of their offences.

Data shows that mule account holders constitute the largest group at 269, followed by 155 agents and 36 accused related to child safety. Other categories include cyber slavery, fake SIM dealers, and bank employees. To execute the operation, nearly 300 teams comprising bureau and law enforcement units conducted simultaneous field verifications.

The drive involved door-to-door physical verification, geo-tagging, financial monitoring, and network mapping of associates. So far, 335 accused persons have been verified, linked to 480 cases in Telangana and over 1,200 cases nationwide. Among them, 218 individuals were successfully traced, while 115 remain untraced. Police have initiated enhanced surveillance, including suspect sheets, for those exhibiting suspicious behaviour. TGCSB Director Shikha Goel stated that this coordinated effort strengthens inter-departmental monitoring and sends a strong message that offenders will remain under continuous surveillance even after arrest.

The operation also revealed challenges such as accused persons residing abroad, underscoring the evolving nature of digital tracking. This reinforces the commitment of the state to safeguarding citizens from persistent digital fraud and sophisticated criminal enterprises.
