The Attorney General’s Office announced the results of a statewide operation targeting online child predators and sex offenders.
Operation Muddy Waters was a two-week crackdown at the end of July that led to 13 arrests on child exploitation charges and 48 arrests involving registered sex offenders accused of failing to comply with registry requirements.
More than 50 electronic devices were seized.
Officials say one child was rescued from an active sextortion scheme.
Local agencies that participated include Bay St. Louis and Biloxi police as well as the sheriff’s departments in Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River, and Stone counties.
